Oldest son of Clay & Lizzie Crye Chapman to survive infancy. Husband of Nell, father of Oneeda Jean & Garland, & step-father of Valeda. Victim of hit-and-run by a flatbed truck, on the Westel Rd.. Worked for his father, until Clay's tragic death, then became a section foreman on the TN Central RR. Named for his maternal grandfather, Hugh H. Crye, & for family friend, Melvin Ora Tarpenning, whose wife likely mid-wifed his birth. Courageously took on the role of head of the Chapman household, upon his mother's passing, caring, as best he could, for his 2 younger brothers, & 2 younger sisters.
