Dr. Bryan Watkins Whitfield purchased from his father "Gaineswood," the great mansion designed and built in Demopolis, Alabama by his father, Gen. Nathan Bryan Whitfield. (Whitfield Descendant Nancy Yankie.)

"Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital in Demopolis, Alabama, was named in his honor," says one source, while another says it was named for his son, Dr. Bryan Watkins Whitfield.
