SPIRIT LAKE - J. Richard (Dick) Carlson, 92, of Spirit Lake, Iowa died at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake on March 17, 2011. Memorial services will be held on Monday, March 21, 2011 at Faith Evangelical Free Church at 10:30am. Visitation will be held from 2:00-4:00pm today at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake.
Dick was born November 6, 1919 in Lanyon, Iowa, the son of David and Sophie Carlson. He was united in marriage to Juanita Magnusson on June 25, 1940 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Dick served on the Central Webster School Board, Farmers Elevator Board and the Lanyon Evangelical Covenant Church Board. One of his joys was music and singing with the Cedar Rapids Harmony Hawks. He also enjoyed watching sports on TV and being with his family. Dick was a member of the Faith Evangelical Free Church in Spirit Lake.
Survivors include his wife of seventy years, Juanita; his children, Sandra Anderson (Gerald), Susan Johnson (Terry), Sharon Nagl (David), David Carlson (Cheryl) and Stacie Wiley; sister, Betty Elmore; nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Dick was preceded in death by his daughter, Cynthia Knudson; parents; sister, Florence; brothers, Arner and Leonard.
