Glo Boykin Welch -- Born April 26, 1926, in Fairford, Alabama, died Wednesday, March 16, 2011, in a local hospital. She had lived in Mobile for the past 70 years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, William B. Welch. She is survived by her daughter, Betsy Welch Bailey; her son, William B. Welch, Jr.; special close friend, Janet Daniela Bache; two granddaughters, Bonnie Bailey Rowell (Brian), all of Mobile, and Annalee Bailey Hargett (Brad) of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. She is also survived by her sister, Vivian W. Richards; nieces, nephews and other relatives. Mrs. Welch attended the University of Alabama. She had been an active member of Dauphin Way United Methodist Church for 70 years. She belonged to numerous civic, cultural and social organizations. She was a member of the Mobile Opera Guild, The Friends of Old Mobile, The Museum of Mobile, Centre for the Living Arts, Friends Of The Museum Of Mobile, Historic Mobile Preservation Society, the Colonial Dames XVII Century, and was a life member of Alpha Chi Omega. She had served on the boards of Davidson High School and the Christopher Branch Chapter of the Colonial Dames XVII Century. She was a member of the Country Club of Mobile, the Scottish Society of Mobile, and a life member of the Bienville Club. A service to celebrate Glo's life will be held on Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at 12 Noon with visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Dauphin Way United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Pine Crest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Dauphin Way United Methodist Church, 1507 Dauphin Street, Mobile, Alabama 36604.
