Levi Phinney ws born near Grand Rapids, Michigan, November 30, 1866 and passed away September 30, 1941. He moved to Kansas with his parents at an early date and in 1888 he homesteaded near Norton.
He was united in marriage to Frances Ricky of Norton in 1892. To this union were born two children, a son, Hugh, who died in infancy and one daughter, Mrs Ralph Dunlap, Linwood.
Mr Phinney was known as an energetic man. He helped to build the first courthouse in Norton by day and cultivated a corn crop by moonlight. He often cut wheat night and day during a long harvest in western Kansas. Besides farming he was engaged in engineering and other construction work until 1933 when he came to Tonganoxie and bought the old Jones farm. Mr Phinney never gave up work until he suffered his first heart attack on September 8. He was taken to the St Margaret's hospital in Kansas City, Kansas. After making peace with God, he comfrted those who were left and his work was completed at the age of 74 years and 11 months.
He leaves to mourn, his wife, Mrs Frances Phinney, his daughter, Mrs Ralph Dunlap and three grandchildren all of Linwood.
Funeral services were held at the Sacred Heart Church in Tonganoxie, Thursday morning, October 2. He was laid to rest in the cemetery near there.
