Pvt. Averitt served in Company G/49th Tennessee Infantry Regiment, Confederate States of America. He was married to Martha E. Shelton, 17 Sept. 1856 and they had two sons; Charles Henderson and Silas Richard Averitt. He was captured at the Battle of Fort Donelson on 15 Feb 1862 and a POW sent to Camp Douglas, ILL.
