Martha Adaline Dagenhardt Shuford was born 22 Nov 1860 in Catawba County, NC, the daughter of John Dagenhardt and Elizabeth Ashabrenner, two old German immigrant families.

She married Adolphus Alexander Shuford in 1883. She gave birth to 11 children, no small feat. Sadly, only 7 were living in 1910 according to the Census. She and Adolphus raised their children in Lovelady Township and Quaker Meadows in Burke County, NC. The 1920 and 1930 census shows the family living in Morganton, NC.

Martha Adaline died May 12,1945 at 84 years of age, and is buried next to her husband and several of her children in the Enon Baptist Church Cemeter in Valdese, Burke County, NC.
