Gary L. Campbell
Gary Campbell, 67, of Sherman passed away Thursday, March 17, at home surrounded by friends and family. He had fought a courageous battle against cancer. Dannel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Services will be held Mon., March 21, at 2:00 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church in Sherman with Rev. Keith Head officiating. He will be laid to rest next to his daughter Cindy at Cedarlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be Sunday March 20, from 6-8 p.m. at Dannel Funeral Home.

Gary was born Nov 9, 1943 in Marshalltown, IA, to Don and Lucile (Muller) Campbell. He graduated from Laurel (Iowa) High School in 1962. He earned a BS degree from Simpson College in Indianola, IA, and was a running back for the football team. He served in the US Air Force in Korea and Chanute Air Base. For 25 years he worked at Oscar Mayer as an industrial engineer, retiring in 1999.

Gary enjoyed fishing, riding his Harley motorcycle across country with friends, visiting his grandchildren, and spending time with his dear friend Sarah Stevens. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Hella Shriner Temple.

Gary was a loving father and good friend, as well as a kind and giving person in the Sherman community and in the Oklahoma City community, in which he shared a bond with many of the survivors of the bombing in 1995. Through his service to survivors and families of the bombing and later the Sept. 11 attacks, Gary had become well known and loved across the USA. His spirit of caring, compassion, and understanding helped many cope with their tragic losses.

Gary was predeceased by his father and his youngest daughter, Cindy Campbell Brown. He is survived by his mother Lucile of Laurel, IA, his ex-wife Linda Campbell of Rantoul, IL, a son, Raymond Campbell and wife Andrea of Bolingbrook, IL, daughter Kimberly Campbell of Rantoul; four grandchildren: Joey and Jesse Gradney, and Ashley and Taylor Campbell; a sister, Lynda Stegemann and husband Ron of Belvidere, IL, and two brothers: Maurice Campbell and wife Barbara of Marion, IA, and Ray Campbell and wife Michelle of Lea Wood, KS; as well as many nieces and a nephew.

Rest in peace and God bless you, Dad, Friend, Brother, and Son.
