The body of PFC Jefferson W Cameron, 25 of Montcoal, arrived at the Armstrong Funeral Home at Whitesville on Saturday September 11, 1948 and was taken to the home of the parents, Mr & Mrs Delbert Cameron, at Montcoal.
Funeral services were held Sunday September 12 at 2pm at the Presbyterian Church at Montcoal, with Rev. George J Kilgus officiating. Burial followed in the Adkins Cemetery at Naoma. Whitesville VFW Post 4387 administered graveside rites.
PFC Cameron died May 2, 1945 on Mindinao Island in the Phillipines. He entered service on April 14, 1942 and received his basic training at Ft Benjamin Harrison, Indiana. He toured cities of the US as a member of the Army War Show before going overseas. Prior to his death he saw service in Haiwaii, New Guinea, Australia and the Phillipines.
He was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star medal for gallantry in action.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by one brother, W.O. Cameron and sisters, Mrs. Alfred Nelson, Mrs Herbert Smills, Dot, Louise, June Joyce and Karla Mayme all at home.
Pallbearers were Johnny Kristoff, Frank Weber, Eugene Dickens, Charles Osborne, Fred Kalinowski Jr, and Jim Kombs.
