Ethelda Wallina "Molly" Thompson, longtime Beggs resident, died Wednesday morning, November 3, 2004 at Okmulgee Memorial Hospital. She was 77 years of age. Mrs. Thompson was born January 13, 1927 in Paris, Texas to Horace and Elsie (Jones) Townsell. She moved to Beggs as a young child and later married Corporal Tate in 1946, and with this union they had nine children. She was a health care provider as well as a cook at Wheatley School and several local restaurants. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church South, where she served in the Mission Department and as a Youth Director. She was also a former Board Member of the Beggs Housing Authority, was active in the Beggs Booster Club and had worked with the Okmulgee County Election Board. She married Nathaniel Thompson, Jr. on March 17, 1981 in Okmulgee. Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Precious Ruth Thompson and step-mother, Corintha Townsell. Survivors include her husband Nathaniel Thompson, Jr. of the home, her nine children, Faye Demry (Billy Joe), Marcella Cottrell, Linda Sue Thomas, Corporal Tate, Jr.(Jean), Elsie M. Fields, Norman Eugene Tate(Delores), and Rodney Tate(Pamela Nethon), all of Beggs, Roy L. Tate (Jacqueline) of Tulsa and Davis O. Tate(Kim) of Prattville, twenty two grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews and special friends, Gloria and Dock Williams. Viewing will be Sunday, November 7, 2004 from 1-8 P.M. at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Beggs. A funeral service will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday, November 8, 2004 at the First Assembly of God Church in Beggs with Pastor Maurice Williams officiating. Interment will follow in the Beggs Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Deacons of First Baptist Church South. Flowerbearers will be the Mission Department at First Baptist Church South. Arrangements are under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Beggs.
