Francis E., "Frank" Mannenbach, 86, a resident of St. Francis Terrace, Fond du Lac, formerly of 71 S. Sallie Avenue, Fond du Lac, died Sunday, July 22, 2007.

He was born on October 22, 1920, in Mount Calvary, the son of the late Frank P. and Elizabeth F. (Bleuel) Mannenbach.

Francis graduated from Fond du Lac High School in 1939. He worked at Mount Calvary State Bank from 1939 until 1942 as a teller and cashier.

He was drafted on October 22, 1942 and served in the United States Army at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas from 1942 to 1945. He was honorably discharged. He then served in the Army Reserves from 1946 until 1949. After his service in the Army, he worked briefly at Abhold's Garage in Mount Calvary.

He was united in marriage to Leola Catherine (Retterath) Mannenbach at St. Mary's Church in Fond du Lac on April 10, 1948. Leola preceded him in death on October 19, 1989.

He purchased the Clover Farm Grocery Store in Mount Calvary from his brother, Jerome. Francis and Leola operated the store until 1956.

They moved to Fond du Lac in 1955. In 1956, Francis began work at the United States Post Office as a clerk and worked there until his retirement in 1983. After his retirement, Francis enjoyed gardening, woodworking, carving, and making candy for friends and relatives at Christmas. The cane he carved for himself was a source of great pride and enjoyment.

Francis was a member of St. Joseph's Parish and enjoyed the time he spent decorating the church for Christmas. He also served as an usher.

Survivors include his three children, Judy M. Mannenbach and her husband Robert Hendricks of Tucson, AZ; his son Peter F. Mannenbach and his wife Lisa Mannenbach of Green Bay; his son Dr. Mark S. Mannenbach and his wife Elizabeth of Rochester, MN; nine grandchildren, Kirk Hendricks, Abigail, Andrew, Jacob, and Grace Mannenbach, and Emily, Kate, Evan, and Ben Mannenbach. His sister Dorothy Krebsbach of Fond du Lac, his sister Joan Flesch and her husband Delmar of Mount Calvary, and his brother Earl Mannenbach and his wife Dorothy of New Holstein further survive him. Numerous nephews and nieces also survive him.

His parents, his sister Gladys Butz and his brother Jerome, preceded him in death.

Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 28th, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, 79 E. 2nd Street, with Father Joseph Wolf O.F.M. Cap. officiating. Burial will follow at St. Charles Cemetery, in the Town of Taycheedah.

Visitation: Friends may call at Zacherl Funeral Home, 875 E. Division Street, Fond du Lac on Friday, July 27th, 2007 from 4 to 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Saturday from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

The family would especially like to thank all the staff at St. Francis Terrace for their care of and compassion for Francis.
