WOONSOCKET- Ret. W.F.D. Fire Chief Gerald P. Landry, 84, of Robinson St., died Tuesday, January 5, 2010 in Landmark Medical Center, Woonsocket. He was the husband of Cecile T. (Thibault) Landry, whom he married October 25, 1948. A lifelong city resident, he was the son of the late Waldo V. and Delia (Paul) Landry.

Chief Landry worked forty-four years for the Woonsocket Fire Department beginning in 1946.

During his tenure with the department he was a Captain and Training Director, Deputy Fire Chief and eventually rose to the rank of Fire Chief in 1973, which he held until his retirement on July 15, 1990.

A WWII Marine Corps Veteran, Mr. Landry served as a Fire Services Instructor at CCRI, was a past President of both the N.E. Fire Chiefs Association and R.I. Instructors Association and was a lifetime member of the D.AV.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons; three daughters; two sisters; and eight grandchildren.
He was the father of the late Barbara S. Landry, grandfather of the late Amherst Lee Landry and brother of the late Aram and Waldo Landry.

His funeral will be held Saturday, January 9, 2010 at 9AM from the Holt Funeral Home, 510 So. Main St., Woonsocket with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM in All Saints Community Church, Rathbun St., Woonsocket. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Manville. Calling hours are Friday from 4-8PM.
