Marion Montgomery Wingfield Jr., 71, Green Meadow Drive, Trion, died Monday at his home.

Mr. Wingfield was the son of the late Marion Montgomery Wingfield Sr. and Mary Du Kyle Wingfield. He was reared in Rome and attended Darlington School. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army in Europe. He was a member of the Trion Presbyterian Church where he served as elder and treasurer for more than 35 years. He retired from Riegel Fiber Corp. in 1982.

Surviving are his widow, Jessie Wingfield, whom he married on June 18, 1949; two sons, Marion Montgomery "Pete" Wingfield III, Stone Mountain, and Burton Wingfield, Dalton, and five grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Trion Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Ronald Ragon and the Rev. Steve Jones officiating. Interment was in West Hill Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Bobby Moseley, John Turner, David Turner, Neil Wingfield, Billy Walker, Jeff King and Donnie Reynolds. Honorary pallbearers were Chesty Ragland, Bobby Haygood, A.J. Strickland, Jim Simmons, E.B. King, Charles Frady, Jamie Marks, W.A. Howard and Sam Garner.

Hill Chapel of Lane Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
