Missouri Governor. Educated at Southeast Missouri State Teachers' College, earned a law degree at Missouri Valley College, then had a career as a teacher, plus principal and superintendent in several different districts, (1919-23). In 1924, he was elected as a Republican the 37th Governor of Missouri, serving until 1929. As Governor, banking reform legislation was sanctioned; funding was secured for road improvements and transportation developments were promoted. After his term, he retired from political life and died of a stroke at age 58.
