Mrs. Higgenbotham, 88, recently of Devon, PA and a resident of Charlotte, North Carolina, for more than 40 years, died on March 23, 2010. Born in Elliott County, KY on September 9, 1923, she was the daughter of the late William Henry White and the late Barbara Lyon White of Jackson, Ohio.
Itle graduated from nursing school in Marietta, Ohio before relocating to Charlotte, where she worked at Presbyterian Hospital as a dedicated and caring LPN for more than 24 years. A prolific gardener, she raised vegetables and grew many lovely flowers, as well as as earned special recognition from the Windsor Park Neighborhood Association for her efforts in keeping the neighborhood beautiful. Itle was a tremendous proponent of education for all youth, and she was especially proud of her children's achievements. She also enjoyed walking, baking, quilting, and sports, particularly North Carolina basketball.
She is survived by her sister, Martyne Sheline, five grandchildren, Kristen Kihiczak, Michelle Wilson, Geoffrey Higgenbotham, Jr., Paul Higgenbotham and Jeff Boling; her son-in-law, Fred Boling and daughter-in-law, Carol Higgenbotham. Itle also has ten great grandchildren and many extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
A memorial service and burial will be held in Jackson, Ohio on April 10, 2010.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her name to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Avenue, 17th floor, Chicago, IL 60601 or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International, 120 Wall Street, 19th Floor, New York, NY 10005.
