Mary Almeda Zimmerman Thompson was born on her parents' farm 4 miles south of Elkhart on what is now County Road 7. She first married Roy Axe and they had one son, Bernard Axe, who was born August 23. 1898. They divorced and she married Daniel Thompson in Chicago in 1903. They had 3 sons: Preston James, Earl D. and Gene, and a daughter, Geraldine, who died in childhood.∼OBITUARY: Elkhard Public Library 9-11-07 The Elkhart Truth, Wednesday, Feb 1, 1939. Mrs Mary Almeda Thompson 60, wife of Dan Thompson, died at their home, 318 Park aveenue, at 12:40 this morning after a long illness. She was bedfast for four months. Mrs Thompson who was the daughter of James and Evely (Coe) Zimmerman was born Sep 10, 1878, on a farm four miles south of Elkhart on the Oakland ave road. Her marriage to Mr. Thompson took place in 1903. Surviving beside the husband are four children - Bernard, who lives in Ocean Park, Calif, and Preston, Earl and Gene at the parental home. Also surviving are a brother Harry Zimmerman of Los Angeles, and six sisters, Mrs. Dick Watson, Mrs Harriet Moore and Mrs. Lloyd Dills, all of Elkhart, and Mrs Erving Christner, Mrs Blanche Parritt and Mrs. Guy Yonkins all of Los Angeles. Mrs. Thompson was member of St. John's Episcopal church and of the auxiliaries of the Order of Railway Conductors and the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen. The body will be returned to the home from the Ed Walley home for funerals, 315 West Marion st. Thursday morning. It will be taken to the Episcopal church at 12:30 p.m. Friday and the service will be conducted there at 2:30 o'clock by the Rev. Virgil Pierce Stewart. Burial will be in Grace Lawn cemetery.
