Melville Frederic Schlamm was born on April 5, 1920 in San Francisco, CA. Shortly afterwards, his family bought a home in the suburb of San Bruno, CA (originally known as Lomita Park).

He attended Lomita Park Elementary in Lomita Park and Burlingame High in Burlingame, CA., where he graduated in 1938.

After serving in the Army Air Corp during WWII (20th Bomb Squadron), he returned to California and his wife Dorothy B. Schlamm (nee Good). They had two daughters, Toni Lorraine and Christy Lee. Mel and Dorothy divorced in 1959. In 1963 Mel married Blanche Klincewicz. Mel adopted her four children, Evelyn, Stephanie, Lorraine and Karl, in 1966.

Mel made a career as an escrow and title officer. Earlier in his working life he worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad and the San Francisco Recreation Department.

When his wife Blanche died in 2000, he moved from Windsor, CA to the Veterans Home in Yountville, CA. He passed away at the Queen of the Valley Hospital in Napa, CA on March 12, 2001. He was 80.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Treadway and Wigger Funeral Chapel in Napa, CA.

He was honored at the Remembrance Service on April 12, 2001, at the Veteran's Home Memorial Chapel.
