Billy was a Confederate veteran. He spent much of his life in West Tennessee. He enlisted in 1862 in Forrest's Cavalry. He was a Presbyterian by faith. He died at home in Mineral Park, Tennessee.

Billy was the son of Wilson Baird and Elizabeth (Baird) Baird. His parents were first cousins and also step-siblings.

He married first Mollie C. Jones on February 12, 1867, in Gibson County, Tennessee. Billy and Mollie were the parents of four children--Madonna Elizabeth, Burman Dryden, Walter, and Donymus Baird. Mollie passed away in 1873. [Madonna's daughter, Ida (Leach) Browning, was the wife Gordon Weaver Browning, a three-time governor of the State of Tennessee.]

He married second Mattie C. Moore on June 25, 1874, in Carroll County, Tennessee. Billy and Mattie were the parents of two children--Lestus E. and Ora T. Baird. Mattie passed away before the 1880 census.

According to family history, Billy married third Mattie's sister, but her identity is unknown and no record has been found of that marriage.

Billy's last marriage was to his cousin, Mary Catherine "Mollie" Baird. They were married on January 20, 1881, in Gibson County, Tennessee. Mollie was 20 years younger than Billy. They were the parents of seven children--Othel, Shella, Omie, Elsie, Keubel F., Russell, and Herbert Ulysses Baird.
