The published Vital Records of Attleborough, Massachusetts, page 66, state Nathan Carpenter, son of Cyril Carpenter and Lucy (Lane) Carpenter, was born October 21, 1777. The grave marker only states that he was born in 1777. The October 21, 1777 date of birth is given in Amos B. Carpenter's "A Genealogical History of the Rehoboth Branch of the Carpenter Family in America," published in 1898, page 217; although this is not an entirely reliable secondary source, it is confirmed by the aforementioned vital records.
