Rees was the son of Evan Sims and his wife Mary. He came to the United States approximately 1852-1856. He married Sarah Hopkins. Their children included Thomas (b. c1858), William R. (b. c1865), Sarah Jane (b. c1869, m. Joseph Humphrey), and Reese (b. c1872). His death was the result of a mining accident, and his namesake, who he never got to see, died in the same manner.
The name Sims was consistently spelled Sims in Wales; it varied a bit once in PA, sometimes one m, sometimes two; it became consistently Simms by about 1900.
