Danish historian and art historian, curator at the National Museum in 1918-1948 and director of the Museum of Copenhagen in 1915-1952. He was a pioneer in the protection and preservation of historical objects. He graduated from Metropolitan College in 1896 and an MA from Copenhagen University in 1903. He became a volunteer at the National Museum's second department in 1896, assistant 1903 and inspector 1918-48, supervisors at the Danish Folk Museum 1910-20, and at the provincial museums 1921-49 and inspector of the Copenhagen City Museum from 1915 until his death. In 1930 he participated in the initial phase of the mammoth project of Denmark Churches which are still ongoing. He was a Knight of the Order of Dannebrog, board member of the Danish Old Joint Association from 1920, Society for the Publication of Danish Memorials from 1921, Trade and Maritime Museum from 1928, Danish cultural Museum Society from 1929, Society for the city of Copenhagen History and Topography of 1936, Liselund Museum from 1938 and the Foundation Bakkehuset from 1939, chairman of Scandinavian Museum Federation Danish Department from 1945, member of the Royal Danish Society of Homeland History from 1937 and the Danish Society for Cultural History from 1937.
