'Dead,' 'Missing' Wires Follow Brothers' Ten Day Pattern

Ten days was the span of destiny in the lives of the Liscum boys, Fred and Jack.

They entered the service in January, 1943, 10 days apart. They went overseas 10 days apart. And 10 days apart came the word to their mother, Mrs. Christine Liscum, that Pvt. Fred, 23, had been killed in action Feb. 6 on Buzon (Luzon The Philippines) , and that Lt. Jack, 21, has been missing in action since Jan. 26 over the Philippines. They were her only sons. She also had two daughters.

Fred was a paratrooper. He took part in the parachute invasion of Manila. He was a graduate of the Bagley (Wis.) high school and of the Platteville State Teachers college.

Jack (Jack H Liscum) was a co-pilot on a B-24 Liberator bomber. He was on his fifteenth mission when he disappeared. He was a graduate of the Bagley high school. He was a student at the Platteville State Teachers college when he entered the service.
