Eldon Hamilton Brown passed away March 22, 2011, in Littleton, Colo. He was born Feb. 12, 1921, in Pueblo, Colo., to William Hamilton Brown and Eva Floy (Parker) Brown. Eldon attended school in Pueblo, Colo., where he excelled in music. In 1938, he won a gold- plated cornet for the highest rating in the Colorado State Cornet Solo contest, exhibiting "stage presence, artistry, expression and beauty of tone." After graduating from Centennial High School in 1938, he pursued musical studies at Emporia State Teachers' College in Emporia, Kan. His studies were interrupted by World War II. Eldon was a sergeant during the war in the 8th U.S. Air Force, 558th Air Service Group, from June 20, 1942, until Jan. 21, 1946. He trained as a physician/dental assistant, and served in the Asiatic Theater. He returned to Pueblo after the war, and married Barbara Jones on June 18, 1950, in Macon, Mo. The couple adopted Norman Lewis Brown in 1957. Eldon worked as a district representative — salesman for the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad, and transferred from Pueblo to the Denver area in the early 1970s, working for the railroad until his retirement. Eldon was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity, Phi Mu Alpha National Music Fraternity, and was a Lions Club member for 15 years. He was a 32nd-degree Mason, and a member of Silver State Lodge No. 95 AF&AM in Pueblo, Colo., as well as the Al Kaly Shrine. Eldon was an active member of the Arapahoe Road Baptist Church in Littleton, Colo. Eldon was active in music all of his life. His musical career spanned 80 years, including playing in the Phillips Crusaders in Pueblo. Because of his ability to sight-read, he filled in with the Kansas City Symphony Orchestra while at Emporia State College. He worked with the Stan Kenton band after WWII, and played with the Pueblo Symphony, Colorado State Fair Band and City Park Band. He continued to play music at his church in Centennial up until the time of his passing. A memorial service to celebrate Eldon's life will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, March 28, at Arapahoe Road Baptist Church, 780 E. Arapahoe Road, Centennial, CO 80122. Memorial contributions may be directed to Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children, Recorder, Al Kaly Temple, P.O. Box 193, Pueblo, CO 81002.
