Polly A. Colwell, 74 of Springfield, died Friday, August 19, 2005 at the Battle Creek Health System.
Polly was born July 25, 1931 in Lawton, Michigan the daughter of Roy W. and Marian L. (Rodgers) Baldwin.
She was raised in Albion, was a 1949 graduate of Washington Gardner High School and attended Central Michigan University.
She had taught in a one room school in the Albion area and two years in the Harper Creek school system. She moved to Battle Creek in 1955 and completed nursing school at Kellogg Community College becoming a Registered Nurse. For five years she was employed at Leila Hospital and later at Evergreen Manor Nursing Home for five years, retiring in 1990.
Polly was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church where she had served on the board of trustees, deaconate, nominating and memorial committees. She was also active in the church food pantry and had served as director for the city food pantry.
On June 8, 1957 she was united in marriage to Herbert A. Colwell at Lakeview Baptist Church, who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters: Kathryn (Jeffrey) Shepard of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; and Jerelyn L. (Daniel) Truex of Battle Creek; son, Allen R. (Andrea) Colwell of Altoona, Wisconsin; four grandchildren: Robert and Benjamin Colwell, and Heather and Mitchell Truex; brother, Rodger R. (Janet) Baldwin of Tempe, Arizona; three sisters: Evelyn L. (James E.) Buckenberger of Battle Creek, Beverly J. (Paul E.) Patterson of Otsego and Georgia E. (Larry L.) Bearman of Dayton, Tennessee.
Visitation will be Monday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home.
Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Lakeview Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Morris F. Anderson officiating.
Interment will follow at Ft. Custer National Cemetery.
