Shirley Ellsworth Stout was born to Ermine Emmett Ellsworth (1900-1972) and Gretchen Teal Ellsworth (1903-1972) in Corning, Iowa. She married Donald Dale Stout (1924-1996) on April 7, 1943. They were the parents of 7 children; Donald Eugene, Gary Lee (died in infancy), Barry Dean, Steven Ray (stillborn), Cheryl Lynn, Jon, and Scot Wane. She lived most of her life in Oskaloosa, Iowa where she and Don operated Don's Diner for 33 years. She was a member of the DAR.
