Henry Birdsong Drowns While on Fishing Trip
.....Henry Birdsong, 25, electrician employed by the Stokes Electric Company here, drowned yesterday afternoon in Gray's Creek located four miles northwest of Jefferson City near Cole Junction.
.....Birdsong was fishing alone and had seated himself on a log extended over the water.. He apparently suddenly became unbalanced and fell into the hole of water, which was eight foot deep.
.....Two other fishermen down the stream heard the man's cry for help, but were unable to render assistance because of the distance they were away from Birdsong.
.....The body was recovered by fishermen with grappling hooks several hours later and the body brought to the Wymore-Gordon Funeral Home here.. After viewing the remains and investigating the circumstances, County Coroner R. E. Weaver of Russellville held an inquest was not necessary.
.....Birdsong was born at California, Mo., Sept. 28, 1907.. He attended the local public schools and had resided here for major portion of his life. He lived at 409 W. Miller Street.
.....His widow, Pauline Birdsong, one baby son, Henry, Jr., his father, Alfred Birdsong of California, Mo., his mother, Mrs. Zona Birdsong of this city and a half-brother survive.
.....The body will be removed to the family residence this afternoon.. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon, from the Union Hill Church at Holt Summit and interment will be there.
