On April 22, 1914 in Antlers, Oklahoma (Pushmataha County), Horace Thirkield Rice married Algia Lee Newcomb, who was born December 12, 1889 in Fannin County, Texas, daughter of Sanford Keen Newcomb (1853-1932) and Louise Jane Jones (1869-1954).

The World War II Draft Registration Cards show that Horace Thirkfield Rice registered for the draft on September 12, 1918, in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. He listed his age as 35; his birthdate at February 7, 1885; his occupation as salesman, his place of residence in Hopkinsville, Kentucky; and his nearest relative as Algia Newcomb Rice.

The 1930 Federal Census for Paducah, Kentucky (McCracken County) shows Horace T. Rice, a tire salesman, age 44, born in Ohio; and his wife, Algia, age 39, born in Texas; and their son, Newcomb, age 12, born in Oklahoma; and their daughter, Jane Clair, age 1; born in Kentucky. Also living in the household was Horace's father, J. Scott Rice, age 75, born in Ohio.

Horace died in 1949 and was buried in Durant, Oklahoma (Bryan County) in the Highland Cemetery. Algia died November 15, 1971 in Durant, and was buried beside her husband.
