Russell was the son of Absalom and Susannah Shepherd Waddell. He married his wife Mary Elizabeth on September 12, 1856 in Sigourney, Iowa. They were the parents of 8 children that I am aware of; Bozzly Adelbert, William Avery, Adaline, Lambert, Mary Ida, Frank, Jane and Margurite Orpha. Russell was a farmer.
