John J. Calvert, was born Sept. 14th, 1826, in Athens county, Ohio, and departed this life April 20th, 1908, aged 81 years, 7 mo. And 6 days.

He was married to Mary E. Deitz, March 12th, 1848. To this union were born two children, one son and one daughter, the latter dying in infancy. The son, James Calvert, still survives him.

He was an old pioneer or early settler who came from Ohio to Crawford county, Ill, in October, 1854 and lived here until death. He was a loving father, a good neighbor and a friend to all whom he chanced to meet. While he did not profess to be a Christian publically, yet he believed that whatsoever a man soweth that shall he reap. He has sown the seed and has gone to reap the reward.

He leaves to mourn their loss a brother, Bruce Calvert, one son, three grandchildren several near relatives besides a host of friends.
