Miss Pearl Janet Elam Succumbs

Many relatives and friends here mourn the passing of one of the community’s aged ladies. Mrs. Pearl Elam, a resident of Purple Hills Nursing Home for the past two years, passed away following an extended illness.

Pearl Janet Elam was born in Bandera on January 3, 1888, the daughter of George and Amanda Hay Elam. She grew up here and for many years engaged in ranching in the Medina community. She was a member of the Re-Organized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Miss Elam passed away Friday, July 19, 1968, at the age of 80 years.

She was a gentle kindly and cheerful lady who will be greatly missed here.

Survivors include two brothers, Lon Elam of Bandera and Clyde Elam of Medina; three nieces, Mrs. Ona Woodson, Mrs. Thora Prater and Mrs. Mary Elam of Fort Worth; and one great-nephew, Dannie Glenn, of San Antonio.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon, July 21, 1968, from Plummer Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Virgil Billings officiating and she was laid to rest in Oak Rest Cemetery in Medina.

Pallbearers were Claude Stevens, Sammie Stevens, O. E. Zuttermeister, Howell Keese, Tom Carpenter, and Hubert Risinger.

Out of town relatives and friends who came to pay their respects to the beloved lady were Mrs. Bertie Mitchell, Mrs. Doris Vandell, Mr. and Mrs. Milton Moore of Houston, Mrs. Ola Wild and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Horton of Austin, and Mrs. Floy Michalka of Midland, Texas.
