Many relatives and friends here mourn the death of Mrs. Cora Rees, beloved mother and grandmother, who died at Purple Hills Nursing Home following an extended illness on Sunday, July 11, 1971, at the age of 94 years.
Mrs. Rees was born in Bandera County on July 26, 1876, the daughter of pioneer parents, Lucy Wells Stevens and John (Jack) Stevens. She grew to lovely young womanhood and on December 17, 1902, was happily married to Walter Scott Rees at Bandera. This union was blessed with three children. One daughter died in infancy.
Mr. Rees preceded her in death in 1958.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, July 13, 1971, at 3 p.m. from the Bandera United Methodist Church with Rev. Lewis White officiating and she was laid to rest in Oak Rest Cemetery in Medina by the side of her husband.
Survivors include one son, Wendell H. Rees, Sr., of Bandera; one daughter, Mrs. Thelma Faye Gibbons of California; three brothers, Ed Stevens of Bandera, Thomas F. Stevens of Center Point and Homer Stevens of Bandera; three sisters, Mrs. Ida Tallman of Bandera, Mrs. Stella Meadows of Bandera and Mrs. Mae Elkins of Kerrville; six grandchildren, six great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
