killed in car accident

MATTHEW PHILIP ROE, passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2011, as a result of an automobile accident that also claimed the lives of three of his closest friends. He was born on Feb. 8, 1993. The four Angola High School seniors had enjoyed a tremendous spring break in Panama City, Fla. and were on their way home. He is survived by his mother, Janet Greenlee Roe; father, Philip (Tara) Roe; sister, Ellen Roe; and stepsisters, Kennedy, Karragen and Taegan Strain. He was beloved by his grandparents Donald and Diane Roe of Angola, Sue Ellen Greenlee of Carmel and Joseph A. and Rose Greenlee of LaGrange. He was looked up to by each of his twenty plus cousins and adored by his ten aunts and uncles. "Matthew loved life, his friends in Angola, and summer time on Lake James and Oliver Lake." He was an active student at Angola High School. He was a member of the Spanish Honor Society, four year varsity soccer letterman, on the sectional championship team and 2010 defensive player of the year. As a popular and engaged student, he won the Senior Class Awards for Best Smile, Best Car (because it was as clean as brand new), and Best Bud. He was a member of Covenant United Methodist Church of Fort Wayne, and the Angola United Methodist Church, Angola. He lived for the summers on the lake. "He loved Lake James with his grandparents and being his Granddad's 'matey' at Oliver Lake. Surrounded by his cousins and friends on the water, Matthew radiated joy with his beaming smile. He tubed, skied, and wakeboarded until the sun went down. Then he fished, speared gar, or played music until forced to quiet down. Wintertime meant snowmobiling and snowboarding. He was a hard worker, committed to neatness and perfection. His wardrobe was maize and blue, a diehard Wolverine and Cubs fan, but he was excited to attend Indiana University this fall. He is unforgettable and will be missed forever by family and friends in Indiana, Iowa, Ohio, Kansas, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Georgia, and Texas. An open visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 31, 2011, at Trine University Busse Athletic & Recreation Center, Angola. Service is is 2 p.m. Friday, April 1, 2011, at Fairview Missionary Church, Angola. Pastors Norman Fuller and Tim Terrell officiating. Burial in Circle Hill Cemetery, Angola.
