Elizabeth Nerem, 94, Minot, formerly of Deering, and the last member of the pioneer family, died Friday, March 25, 2011, in a Minot adult assisted living center.

Elizabeth Caroline Wiltse was born on May 24, 1916, a daughter of Glenn and Carrie (Salvey) Wiltse, on a farm near Deering. She was raised and educated in Deering and graduated as valedictorian from Deering High School in 1934.

On Nov. 26, 1935, Elizabeth was united in marriage to Melvin Nerem. They made their home on the Nerem farm near Deering, where she was a homemaker. In 1979, they retired from farming and moved into Minot. Melvin died in 1980. Following his death she continued to live in Minot. In February of 2011, Elizabeth moved into Brentmoor.

While living in Deering, Elizabeth was a member of the Deering Lutheran Church and its ladies aid. She served as a 4-H leader for the Klever Klipperettes for 21 years. When in Minot, Elizabeth was a charter member of Bread of Life Lutheran Church and served as treasurer of the Merry Circle for 16 years. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, baking, and spending time with her family.

Surviving family includes: Children, Janice Nerem, Great Falls, Mont., Elaine Swanson, Minot, Clifford (Ginny) Nerem, Deering, Gary (Mary) Nerem, Deering; son-in-law, Larry Mueller, Minot; sister-in-law, Sena Wiltse, Minot; grandchildren, Kenneth (Kathy) Swanson, Travis (Lisa) Nerem, Tracy Nerem, Tammy (Jerry) Hanson, Wayne (Carrie) Nerem, Calvin (Bonnie) Nerem, Jodi Hammer, Brian (Kelly) Brodehl, Charlene (Larry) Goettle, Karlene (Ian) Wyman; 21 great-grandchildren: three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Melvin; daughter, Carrie Mueller; brothers, Gene, John and Delbert Wiltse; and sisters, Agnes Johnson and Lillian Lewis Berry.

Funeral Service: Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at 1 p.m. at Bread of Life Lutheran Church, Minot.

Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
