Anita was one of my best friends in kindergarten, in 1983. My friend was a beautiful person.

My memories of Anita, are few, but sweet. The very last time I saw her was about 10 years before her death, when she lived two streets down from me. As I said before, we were best friends in kindergarten. We were two of the three quite ones in the class. I think that is what brought us together. Our simpleness and quite sense of existence definitely was the spark to our friendship. We were always together, along with the other quite one, Kia. All three of us played house together during play time and would tell crazy stories and jokes to make each other laugh until we cried. We would soon share a small crush on one of our classroom mates. After kindergarten I saw her a few times, while I was in first grade. We would sometimes get together at playtime, but would soon lose contact. Up until that time before she died, when I took a walk to the second street over from my street. I was walking down the road and saw a friend outside who was with this one other girl. As I walked up closer, we both recognized each other. When we confirmed that we were who we thought we were, we hugged. For a few weeks we would meet up together and talk and just catch up on each others lives. Soon after, she moved and we lost contact again. Little did I know that the next time she would reenter my life was when I would find out that she was gone.

I was a graphic designer for a local newspaper, and I was working on two memorial ads. I looked at the picture that was used on both ads. I knew who it was just as soon as I looked at her. But I needed to know for sure. I actually went online to find anything on her. I found two articles about her death and started to cry hysterically. I couldn't believe or understand why and who would do such a thing to such a beautiful person. I was able to get her obit from the newspaper I worked for. The next day, I called her mother to actually confirm that it was her. As soon as we figured out the facts and it was pointed out that she was definitely my friend, I broke down into tears and soon I was joined by her mother as we shared this moment together. She apologized for being the source of such bad news.

As I say on my Contributor's Page, I want to show the world how great my loved ones were in life and how wonderful they are in heaven. If you wish to, please visit my tribute to my beautiful friend, who was taken away so brutally. There you will see many more pictures of Anita and many more stories to share.

I want to thank everyone who has taken the time to leave flowers and notes for my friend. It is greatly appreciated.

POLICE SUSPECT DOMESTIC ABUSE IN DEATH OF WOMAN FOUND ON BUCKSHUTEM ROAD
Press of Atlantic City, The (NJ) - Wednesday, December 12, 2001
Author: LUIS PUGA Staff Writer, (856) 794-5111
A local woman who was found dead in the road in front of her home was an apparent victim of domestic abuse, State Police said Tuesday.

State Police spokesman John Hagerty said Anita Pilot, 24, was found at 2 a.m. Sunday morning.

Hagerty said troopers Greg Wren and Daniel Mercado initially were called to Pilot's Buckshutem Road home on a domestic violence call.

State Police apprehended Kerry Hall, 25, without incident at his home on the 3000 block of Cedarville Road in Lawrence Township.

"I can indicate Mr. Hall and Ms. Pilot had a previous relationship," Hagerty said. "There was a child born as a result of the relationship. I do not believe there was a legal marriage."

Hagerty said Hall is being charged with aggravated manslaughter with a motor vehicle and violations of the state's domestic violence act. He is being held at the Cumberland County Jail on $50,000 bail.

As to what injuries Pilot had or what happened in the early morning hours, neither Hagerty nor Cumberland County Prosecutor Arthur Marchand would say. Both men said the events of that morning are still under investigation.

Marchand did say that he believes a motorist may have stopped and saw the body.

"That person is not a suspect, but we need to know when they saw the body," he said.

As for other suspects, Marchand said, "That remains to be seen."

Both Marchand and Hagerty said anyone who has information regarding the death should contact police. The Bridgeton Barracks of the State Police can be reached at (856)-451-0101. The lead detective on the investigation is James Burnham, but Hagerty said any State Police detective can take the information.

Also, the Prosecutor's Office can be contacted at (856)-453-0486. Detective George Chopek has been assigned to the case and can be reached at extension 107.
