Tonalita Alexander

U.S. Veteran Tonalita J. Alexander, 49, of Virginia Beach, Va., went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at her mother's home in Zanesville, Ohio. Tonalita was born April 28, 1961 in Zanesville.

After high school she enlisted in the U.S. Coastguard in 1979. She then enlisted in the Army 1980. She completed Advanced Training School in Fort Lee, Va. and earned her paratrooper wings from 82nd Airborne Division Jump School at Fort Bragg N.C. More of her assignments include, Fort Sill, Oklahoma, Fort Carson, Colorado, the Rep. of Korea, and Fort Meade, MD.

During her 21 year tour in the Army, Chief Alexander completed her Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and completed her Masters Degree with the University of Maryland. She received an honorable discharge from the military in 2000.

She then worked as an investigator for Defense Security Service in Fort Meade. In 2002, she moved to Virginia and taught at Tidewater Community College. Tona had a passion for doing her own thing and founded the non-profit Positive Influence Foundation focusing on mentoring young girls.

She also established several small businesses. She focused on the art of Fung Shui and used it to create harmony and balance in the home. She organized client's homes by arranging décor to bring balance and good health to their lives using this art. She was an inspiration to everyone who came in contact with her. She will be truly missed by all.

She is survived by her mother, Bonita Alexander; three brothers, Robert (Angela) Alexander, Richard Alexander and Terry ‘Beatles' Alexander all of Zanesville; aunt, Rita Smith of Va., and Terry Alexander of Columbus; 8 nieces; 2 nephews; 2 great-nieces; 3 great nephews; many special cousins special friends, Walt and Joan Davis.

Visitation will be Tuesday, March 22, 2011 beginning at 11 a.m. at Burrell Funeral Services with service to follow at 1 p.m. Rev. Terry Newman will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
