Michael Edward Amsden, 59, of Lily Lane, North Haverhill, N.H., died peacefully Saturday, March 26, 2011, at his home, with his family by his side.

Mike was born Feb. 12, 1952, in Oil City, a son of Richard H. and Margaret (Rodenbaugh) Amsden.

He graduated from Oil City High School in 1970 and worked for several years for Electralloy Steel Co. in Oil City.

He graduated from Clarion University in 1984 and achieved his master's degree in education administration at Plymouth State University.

He was married June 28, 1986, to Patricia Kilfoyle.

After graduating from Clarion Mike worked at VisionQuest until 1988.

He and Pat moved to New Hampshire where Mike worked with emotionally troubled students in various positions and schools throughout SAU 23 until 1996. He served as principal of Beckett School from 1996 through 1999.

He then found his most rewarding job was serving the Bath community as principal of the Bath Village School from 1999 to 2011. The students and staff will be in his heart forever.

A memorial service for Michael E. Amsden will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, April 8, at Calvary United Methodist Church, Oil City.

Mr. Amsden died March 26, 2011, in North Haverhill, N.H.

The family will continue onto the Brandon Cemetery for a burial service.



Mike was recognized for his leadership and commitment to the school when he received the NH Grange Educator of the Year Award in 2009. Under Mike's leadership, the Bath Village School just received the National Blue Ribbon School Award from the U.S. Department of Education in Washington, DC.

Mike loved a good cup of coffee, fishing, hunting, golf, camping, his boat, the Pittsburgh Steelers, being the principal of the Bath Village School, and his family.

Mike was predeceased by his father, Richard Amsden in 2010; his older brother, Gary Amsden in 1997; and a nephew, Trey Amsden in 2009.

He is survived by his mother,

Margaret Amsden of Oil City; his wife, Pat of North Haverhill; two daughters, Angela Hannett and husband Jim of North Haverhill and Adrienne Sexton of Newburgh Heights, Ohio; his grandson, Dominic Black of Newburgh Heights; his brother, Tom Amsden of Oil City; his sister in-law Kim Amsden of Oil City; and many special nieces and nephews.

Calling hours were held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch St., Woodsville, N.H.

A celebration of his life will be held at 6 p.m. today at Ricker Funeral Home with his father-in-law, William Kilfoyle, officiating. There will be an opportunity for anyone who would like to share a sentiment about Mike.

A celebration of Mike's life will also be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday for the Bath Village School and community at the Bath Village School, 61 Lisbon Road, Bath, N.H.
