Daphane Arlene Dudley was born the daughter of Lewis Carlton Dudley and Velva Irene Diltz on her grandparents farm, William and Janie Dudley, 2 miles north of Troy Mills, Iowa in Buchanan County, Iowa. Lewis and Irene are buried in Troy Mills, Iowa. Daphane graduated from Troy Mills High School with a wonderful class in 1948. She was married to Dean Myron Hoover on November 28, 1948 in the Troy Mills Christian Church. They were parents of Deanice Rae Hoover Ludolph, Donita Mae Hoover Casey, Daniel Ray Hoover and DeWayne Jay Hoover. We have been life time farmers living north of Troy Mills in Buchanan County, Iowa.

Daphane wrote the above memorial herself and after her death I (Brett Reece) added the obits below. Daphane and I are cousins related through the Reece line. I loved Daphane and she was an immense help to me and other genealogists given her collection of genealogical information gained over a lifetime.

Daphane wrote volumes of family history books pertaining to family surnames connected to the Troy Mills area. Much of the knowledge she possessed was in her head and I was always amazed at her ability, and that of her husband's, to recall stories and family relationships from decades prior. I have lost count on the number of people who stated to me that they were grateful for the conversations and correspondences they had with Daphane leading them to an understanding of their family history.

I knew Daphane for years prior to 2000 when I seriously started collaborating with her to write my own family history, much of it gleaned from her decades of research. She fast tracked my initial family history research and for that I am grateful. Much of the detailed information I have pertaining to my Reece family history was gathered by Daphane.

Daphane loved Find A Grave and she spent many hours creating and managing memorials for this website. When Daphane died her daughter transferred Daphane's memorials to me for management which I was honored to accept.

I wrote the following tribute to Daphane which appeared on the back of her funeral card....
Daphane was a committed genealogist and preserver of family histories for nearly 50 years. During that time she was the go-to-person in the community for anyone who wanted to know their genealogy. Knowledge of our ancestors shapes us and instills within us values that give direction and meaning to our lives, Daphane succeeded in capturing and passing down this knowledge.
Daphane was a caring person who saw the value of preserving genealogical information for this and future generations; she was therefore ahead of her time and her work will live on for generations to come.
We are not just better people because we have a greater understanding of our ancestry through Daphane, we are also better people because she touched our lives through the many attributes she possessed.....Brett Reece
