Born in Omps, Morgan County, W.Va., November 9, 1883. Son of Anious Beeler and Rebecca (Dawson) Beeler; married, February 18, 1920, to Helen M. Ambrose (1895-1971).
Republican. Member of West Virginia state house of delegates from Morgan County, 1933-40, 1943-44; member of West Virginia state senate 16th District, 1947-50; defeated, 1950.
United Brethren. Member, Freemasons; Shriners. Died September 12, 1959 (age 75 years, 307 days).

St. Mark's Episcopal Church was filled to capacity by relatives and friends Tuesday afternoon for services for Harvey D. Beeler, Sr., 76, who died Saturday afternoon,
September 12 in City Hospital, Martinsburg. Services were conducted by his pastor the Rev. Lawrence Reppard.
In failing health for the past year, he was seriously ill for a week before his death.
Born in Morgan County November 9, 1883, he was a son of the late Anious and Rebecca Dawson Beeler and attended public schools in the county.
A leader in Republican politics - he served five terms in the West Virginia House of Delegates - 1933, 1935, 1937, 1939 and 1943. In 1947 he was elected to the state senate from this district which is heavily democratic, serving four years until 1951. In both the house and senate he served on or headed important committees.
He was active in business and community projects here for half a century and had successfully operated several businesses of his own which included farming and fruit
growing, retail coal, bottled gas service and others. Some years ago he was a dealer for Dodge and Plymouth automobiles and operated a service station in connection. He retired from active business only a few weeks ago when he sold his bottled gas interests.
He was the senior member of the board of directors of Citizens National Bank and had been on the board since the bank's organization. He had also been a director of the Bank of Morgan County.
He was an active member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church and had served as senior warden of the vestry for several years.
He was a member of Deford Masonic Lodge, Osiris Shrine Temple, the Eastern Panhandle Shrine Club, a charter
member and past president of the Berkeley Springs Kiwanis Club.
He introduced in the legislature the resolution that resulted in establishment of "The Pines" here under the West Virginia Foundation for Crippled Children and also for the establishment of the Nurses Home. "The Pines" later became the present Morgan County War Memorial Hospital.
While in the legislature he also introduced a resolution to invite President Roosevelt to visit "The Pines" here, which the President did, along with a trip to Woodmont Rod and
Gun Club near Hancock, MD.
He also sponsored a resolution to make Berkeley Springs the site for a Summer White House.
He was also influential in establishment of Cacapon State Park, which adjoins the farm where he was born.
He was long interested in sports and outdoor life generally, and until transferring the property to his son recently, was the owner of several hundred acres along Cacapon River where he had a camp and entertained friends frequently during the hunting and fishing seasons.
In earlier years of the operation of the sand mines here he had a contract to furnish draft horses for work in the mines.
Surviving are his wife, the former Miss Helen Ambrose, at the home; a son, Harvey D. Beeler, Jr., of Paw Paw; two grandchildren - H.D., 3rd; and Rebecca: four sisters, all residing in Berkeley Springs - Mrs. Ward M. Dawson, Mrs. William Eppinger, Mrs. Theodore J. Hovermale and Mrs. L. B. Allemong; and a brother, Henry Beeler, of the southern end of the county.
Masonic graveside services in Greenway Cemetery were conducted by Past Grand Master John Schroder, of Martinsburg, assisted by members of Deford Lodge. Bearers, all Masons were, H. N. Gorrell, Burton English, E. M. Dunham, C. R. Ambrose, Harry Richard and H. F. Shipley.
