Her parents were James and Catherine McGinn. Both James and Catherine were born in Ireland about 1821 and 1822; they settled in the Schullsburg area before 1856. James and Catherine had 6 known children: Mary A., Henry T., Bridget E., James P., Thomas J., Catherine (called Renn), and Josie; all were born in Wisconsin. Josie and John had one son, John J. Legal papers give her name as M. Josephine McQuaid.

Mrs. McQuaid Obituary
Darlington - Mrs. Josephine McQuaid, 68, died at her home here tuesday night after a long illness. She had lived here since 1916, when she moved from a Mineral Point farm with her husband, John R. McQuaid, who married her Nov. 3 1909. Mr. McQuaid died in 1926.

Mrs. McQuaid was born in Shullsburg Aug 5., 1871, the dght of James and Catherine McGinn. She spent her early life there, and taught in the Shullsburg school for 8 years. She was a member of the Altar rosary societies of the Holy Rosary Catholic church here, and also was a member if the Catholic Daughters.

Survivors include a son, John J., and a sister, Rena McGinn, both of Darlington.
Funeral services will be held at the Holy Rosary church at 9 AM Friday with the Rev. Bernard Doyle officiating. Burial will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery. (Wisconsin State Journal 18 Apr 1940)
