Mary Ann Clegg, daughter of Mrs. Mary Wild, of Murrayville, was born May 1, 1845, at Griggsville, Pike County, Illinois. She was married to James M. Cook August 10, 1869. Born to this union were four children: William T., Mary E., who died in infancy, Mrs. J. B. Roach and James H. After an illness of two weeks' duration she passed away at 11:30 p.m. December 2, 1905, aged 57 years, 7 months and 1 day. She leaves to mourn her loss a devoted husband, two sons and one daughter; seven grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Robert Jackson of Jacksonville, Mrs. Edward Gallagher of Woodson, and Mrs. J. T. Osborn of Murrayville, also three brothers, William Clegg, J. T. Wild and Samuel Wild, of Murrayville.
At an early age she was converted and united with the M. E. church in Jacksonville. Removing to Franklin in 1885, she placed her membership in the M. E. church of that place, and transferred her membership to the church here, and remained a faithful member of that church to the time of her death. She was also an active member of the Daughters of Rebekah, of the Home Missionary society, and of the W. C. T. U. She was a faithful wife, a devoted mother, and best of all, a true Christian "Blessed are the dead who died in the Lord."
Funeral services were held at the M. E. church at 2 p.m. Tuesday, conducted by Rev. C. M. Barton, followed by interment in East cemetery.
