Vernon Lee "Andy" Anderson, 82, of Chanute, Kansas, passed away Thursday, March 31, 2011 at the Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center, Chanute, Kansas.

Andy was born in the Vilas area, rural Chanute, on December 21, 1928, the son of Herman Ruben and Margaret (Anderson) Anderson.

He attended NCCC in Chanute and graduated with an AA in Education.

He was united in marriage to Virginia Williams on June 28, 1990 in Miami, OK. She survives of the home.

He taught school at Vilas for two years. He later worked in North Carolina, Winfield, KS, and then worked as a Maintenance Worker for the Social and Rehabilitative Services in Chanute for seventeen years.

He was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church, Boerstler-May American Legion Post #170, Cecil J. Meeker Post #1654 V.F.W. , where he was Commander, and Cedar Lodge #103.

Andy is survived by his wife Virginia of Chanute, KS; two sons, Jeff Anderson and Victor Anderson, both of Wichita, KS; two step-sons, Scott Hinkle and wife Melina of Vinita, OK, and Michael Hudson of Conyers, GA; grandchildren, Brittani (Hinkle) Carrasco and husband Eduardo of Chanute, KS, Logan Hinkle and Raegan Hinkle of Vinita, OK, Chad Anderson, Lori Anderson, Jamie Anderson, and Ian Anderson, all of Wichita, KS; a great-granddaughter, Ahriana Carrasco; and a sister, Jean Tunks and husband Roger of Lakeland, FL.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a step-son, Pat Hinkle; and a brother, Robert Anderson.

Funeral services will be Monday, April 4, 2011 at the Otterbein United Methodist Church in Chanute, KS. Burial will follow in Vilas Cemetery, west of Chanute, KS.

Memorials in his name may be made to the Otterbein United Methodist Church or the Shriner's Childrens Hospital and may be left with the funeral home.

Penwell-Gabel Gibson Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
