In the early 1900's her parents moved to Washington State from Dade County, Missouri. The family settled on a dairy farm on Pulver Road. Alberta and her brother, Myron, had a great time growing up with their Thurman and Vercoe families.
She graduated from Burlington High School and attended business college in Seattle.
Alberta married Emil Torrell on December 20, 1944 in Burlington.
She was working as a secretary for the Dairy Association when she met Emil. The Torrell family had operated a dairy farm in Mount Vernon for thirty-five years. After they were married in 1944, Emil and Alberta took it over. For many years until their retirement, they raised Jerseys and received many awards for their high production of butterfat. They were among the oldest Darigold shippers.
Alberta had a wonderful sense of humor and she kept her family ‘on edge' wondering what was coming next. She and Emil loved to hike in the mountains when they had some time between milkings and they loved to grow rhododendrons knowing each one by its name.
Preceded by parents and her brother Myron; survived by husband, sister-in-law Dorothy Thurman; cousins and several nephews and nieces.
