"He was born about 1828 in Pennsylvania to David B. and Lucy Jackson. There is an 1850 Federal Census which shows them together as a family, along with Charles, his brother, who is also buried with them. Obediah enlisted in Co. I, 2nd Illinois Light Field Artillery (LARTY) on 03 October 1864 and mustered out at Springfield, Illinois on 14 June 1865. A headstone was ordered for him from the War Dept. in 1934, but sadly no date of death for him was given at that time."
