Rev. Rutledge Dies; Retired Baptist Minister

The Rev Owen E. Rutledge, 77, retired Baptist minister, died yesterday at his home, 102 Scott Ave., Fairmount. Mr. Rutledge retired four years ago from the ministry. His last pastorship was the Morgan and Euclid Methodist Church where he supplied five years. He was born in Canada. He was a graduate of Woodstock Preparatory School for Boys. He was also a graduate of McMaster University, Toronto, and Newton Theological Seminary, Newton Center, Mass. He was called to Delavan Avenue Baptist Church. This was followed by 15 years at Fredonia and he was pastor of the First Baptist Church at Trumansburg from 1939 to 1948. Mr. Rutledge is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ellen Love Rutledge; five sisters, living in Canada, and several nieces and nephews. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Maurer Funeral Home, Liverpool, the Rev. Kenneth A. Roadarmel, general secretary of the New York State Council of Churches, officiating. Burial will be in Pine Plains Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at the funeral home.

Reverend Rutledge passed away suddenly Friday forenoon. He was pastor for five years of the Euclid and Morgan churches.
Interment being made in Pine Plains Cemetery.

Rev. Rutledge, Former Pastor Succumbs at 77

The Rev. Owen E. Rutledge, 77, retired Baptist minister and onetime pastor of the Fredonia
Baptist Church, died last Friday (May 2, 1958) at his home in Fairmont.

The Rev. Mr. Rutledge retired four years ago from the ministry. His last pastorate was the Morgan and Euclid Methodist Church where he supplied five years.

He came to Fredonia in 1924 from the Delevan Avenue Baptist Church, Buffalo, and remained
here 15 years. He was closly identified with the interests of the community and was active in the Rotary Club and Forest Masonic Lodge.

It was during his pastorate here that the Fredonia church marked its 125th anniversary and an Italian Baptist church was created in Eagle Street.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ellen Love Rutledge; five sisters living in Canada and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral was Monday afternoon in Liverpool, with the Rev. Kenneth Roadarmel, general secretary of the New York State Council of Churches, officiating. Burial was in Pine Plains Cemetery, Clay.
