Johnnie was born on April 1, 1930, in Oplin, TX to Joe Bailey and Lottie May Burrow McBride. After high school he joined the United States Air Force which took him all over the country. While stationed in South Carolina, he met the love of his life Vera Idell McBride. They were married on September 8, 1951. He remained in the Air Force for 23 years before his retirement. He then started preaching at local nursing homes.
In his spare time, Johnnie enjoyed hunting and spending time with his family fishing at their cabin on Lake Coleman. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Abilene.
Johnnie was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Vera.
Survivors include his four sons: Daniel McBride and wife Debbie of Graham, Carl McBride and Christine of Merkel, Mike McBride of Graham, and Ron McBride of Abilene; two daughters, Beverly Geoff and husband Henry of Hawley and Michelle Beaumont and husband Noah of San Antonio; one brother, Charlie McBride of Abilene; one sister Suzie Roe of Louisiana, 22 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be made to the Liberty Baptist Church, 11499 ES 11th St, Abilene, TX 79602
