US Congressman. Born in Bonneville, Dinwiddie County, Virginia, he was a member of the Virginia State House of Delegates, (1797-1801, 1813-15) and a member of the Virginia State Senate, (1804-08). During the War of 1812, he served as a Major General of the Virginia State Militia. In 1818, he was elected as a Republican to the Fifteenth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of United States Representative Peterson Goodwyn and served until 1819. After his term, he was appointed United States Marshal for the eastern district of Virginia and served until 1821.
