Robert A.C. DeVries, M.D., PhD. Beloved doctor, father and friend. Feb. 13, 1939-Dec. 18, 2009.

Dr. DeVries died peacefully in his Dallas residence on 12/18/2009 following a valiant battle with cancer. He was surrounded by family, friends and his adoring wife of 36 years, Cindy.

He was born in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, where he earned both an M.D, as well as a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Amsterdam.

In 1972, Dr. DeVries came to Southwestern Medical School in Dallas on a Post-Doctorate Fellowship. He met Cindy and decided to make Dallas his home.

He practiced Endocrinology in Dallas for 35 years with a special interest in the Thyroid gland. He was a staff member of Richardson Methodist Regional Hospital, a member of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists and the Texas Medical Association.

His patients were his friends and he treated everyone with dignity and respect. Medicine and family were his passion.

He is survived by his wife, Cindy. Daughter, Michele Connally Mardella, "Special" daughter, Valorie Connally. 2 grandchildren and his beloved labrador retrievers. He is preceded in death by a son, Sean W. Connally who died in March 2008.

A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church in Richardson on Monday, December 21 at 3:00 PM.

A special thanks to the family of Dr. John Carver, DVM., Dr. Volker Gressler and Valorie Connally.

Many, many thanks to Debbie R., his office manager of his last 15 or so years of medical practice, who was honest, and truly tried to keep Dr. D. on a schedule. Debbie always managed to work me in, as she did with everyone, who needed Dr. D's help. Debbie, you are loved and appreciated.

[Created with love, sincere admiration and fond remembrances of Dr. D, by a patient of several decades, and a very good friend. You are sorely missed, Dr. D.; you were a one of a kind doctor and friend, and there will never be another like you. I miss you ... and I miss your jokes, too. Mostly, though, I miss your counsel as a friend and as my doctor.

Dr. D's wife, Cindy passed away about a month after he passed. I never heard any details and know nothing of arrangements, but I know without a doubt that they are happy together.

Dr. D - My hopes, prayers and wishes are that you, Cindy and Sean are happily exploring your heaven on earth in New Mexico. You deserve it.
