He was born November 1, 1902 in Mt. Vernon Indiana, a son of William Henry and Sarah Elizabeth (Kincheloe) Saltzman, a pioneer Posey County Family. He graduated from Mt. Vernon High School and on December 10, 1925 he married his wife of 63 years, Uba Vashti Scamahorn. He was a farmer and member of the Posey County Farm Bureau Oil Refinery where he retired in 1967. He enjoyed his family and he was very active in his church, he was a member of the Point Township Nazarene Church from its inception until he passed away.
He is survived by his wife Uba Vashti (Scamahorn) Saltzman, Daughters Betty Sue Reinitz, Patricia Hast, and Judy Redman all of Mt. Vernon. Sons James Donald of Mt. Vernon, and Jerry of New Harmony; Sisters Amy C. Strean of Winthrop Harbor, Illinois; and Yettive Hancock of Mt. Vernon, also 7 grandchildren, he is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Harold, Jesse, Horace, and Eldon, and sisters Beulah Oliver, Ida Rae Biggerstaff, Sylvia Ackerman, and Murviel Clara Phelps.
Services will be at Weisinger Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with Rev. Dallas Robinson Officiating. Graveside services will be held at Bellefontaine Cemetery in Mt. Vernon.
