H.P. Johnson Dies After Long Illness
H. P. Johnson, 83, a resident of this vicinity for over half a century, died at his home, 502 West Charles street, about 10:30 a. m. Wednesday, after a lingering illness from cancer of the bladder. HE had been in poor health for a number of years past, and had undergone two surgical operations in the hope of securing relief, his condition having been especially serious during the last two years.

Born in Falster, Denmark, on January 20, 1847, Mr. Johnson came to America in 1869, locating first at Chicago, Ill. In 1874 he came to Grand Island, where he was employed about two years. In 1876, in this city, he was united in marriage with Sophia Karen Goettsch. Following their marriage, they located on a farm five miles east of Grand Island on which they resided until 1914, when they retired and moved to Grand Island.

His wife passed away November 25, 1927, and a daughter, Hannah, died June 20, 1921. Two sisters and one brother have also preceded him in death.

Surviving are six daughters, Mrs. Cecilia Larsen, Mrs. Clara Richards, Mrs. Sophia Humphrey, Mrs. Carrie Momsen and Miss Hilda Johnson, all from Grand Island; Mrs. Mary Pedersen, residing east of this city; two sons, William and Peter. residing on farms east of Grand Island; one brother, Ole Johnson of this city; and two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Stoll, Tacoma, Wash., and Mrs. Anna Thiasen, Laredo, Texas. all of the members of the immediate family were at his bedside when the end came.

Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at two o'clock from the home, Rev. C. B. Harman, of St. Paul's English Lutheran church, officiating. Burial will be in the Grand Island cemetery.
