Eliza married Joab Morton in 1885, following the death of her sister, Mary Jane, who was Joab's first wife. Eliza and Joab had no children of their own, but she became a step mother to her sister's children, four of whom were under the age of fifteen when their mother died. Eliza and Mary Jane were daughters of Berry and Sarah Finnell Stone from Estill County. Eliza's husband, Joab Morton, was well respected. Eliza died from Influenza on April 16, 1922, not in 1924 as her headstone states. The Kentucky Death Records online, which are digitized images of the actual records, clearly state that she died in 1922.
